A little fun in the woods!

Image
On Wednesday, we decided to do a little den building, music making and marshmallow eating! The Bears showed fantastic teamwork, tieing the rope around the trees, then testing tarpaulins for size and putting it in place. They then worked together to hammer in 'pegs' (sticks) to secure the den in place. We also had some musicians, creating their own music, experimenting to make different sounds using a variety of materials they found in the woods.  We finished by enjoying some marshmallows in our den and then listening to the performance by the band and having a little boogy to the music.

Experimenting in DT- sewing

This afternoon, Bears experimented with a variety of materials to make crowns. The started by cutting out paper templates of crowns and added different embellishments. They also thought of ways to join the template together to make the crown sit on their heads. Once their crown was complete, they experimented with different fabrics to see which would be best to make their final piece with. We also learnt how to join fabric together using a running stitch. We cut Binca into rectangles and threaded the needle with wool so that we could practise using a running stich. We then folded the Binca over and joined it together to create a pouch.

Human impacts on habitats

As part of our Science topic 'Animal survival' we have been discussing if  humans harm or help habitats.  The children thought of ways in which humans can sometimes destroy habitats when constructing, using chemicals, polluting and littering. We  then came  up  with positive steps we can take to support our local habitats.  We decided that there are things that we can do in our local environment to support habitats such as: litter picking, planting wild flowers, making bird feeders and building habitats for the animals in school grounds.

Cath Kidston Patterns

Design and Technology                             Friday 12th May 2023 Significant Designer- Cath Kidston  In Design and Technology, the Tigers and Bears have been looking at the significant British designer, Cath Kidston. We looked at some products by Cath Kidston and compared these with others from the same and different brands, also discussing how these products could be improved. We also looked at patterns by Cath Kidston deciding which ones we liked and disliked. We also noticed that these patterns were repeating. We noticed that Cath Kidston used lots of florals, spots, and shapes to create her patterns. Therefore, we had a go at making our own repeating patterns that Cath Kidston could use on her products.
