Engineering geniuses

Image
The infants have been inspired by Rosie Revere, Engineer, so during forest school they were given the challenge to build the tallest tower. The only materials they were given were string and natural materials from the woodland. In order to be successful they needed to show many of our school values, which they did! Discussing the best strategy.  Leaning on our friends. Building. Working together. Testing. Measuring and evaluating the finished piece. Testing the strength.

Capture the Flag

Image
This afternoon, we had an epic game of capture the flag during our forest school session. The two teams had to think carefully about where to hide their flag to try avoid it being stolen from the other team. Then, during their team talk then came up with the best strategy to defeat the opposing team. After, we sat around our new campfire area and had a sing song together. Hiding the flag. Making a plan of action. Trying to steal the other team's flag. Stealing the flag. Singing the penguin song.

Number games

Image
This morning we enjoyed playing different games, practising recognising numbers and counting amounts. Counting Duplo walls, finding the correct numeral and adding to it to make a wall with 8 bricks. Trying to make the tallest tower with 8 bricks. Feeling and counting the Numicon number then asking their partner to make a tower with that amount of bricks.

Natural mobiles

Image
This afternoon, during our forest school session we made mobiles out of natural materials. The children collected their materials and tied the ‘treasures’ to a piece of wood using string. They worked in pairs, teaching and guiding one another.

Party preparation

Image
This morning we decided to prepare for a party to celebrate the character Shen, from our story, defeating the emperor and doing the right thing. We made lanterns. We weighed out the ingredients to make ‘cookies’. We rolled out moon shaped ‘cookies’.

‘ay’ sound

Image
We have been learning how to read and write the ‘ay’ sound in phonics. We practised ‘Fred talking words with this sound in and used them to write sentences.

Shelter building

Image
This afternoon we made shelters to protect us from the weather. We used tarpaulins, rope and and anything else from the woods.
