Fruit and veg tasting session

Image
To start of our new topic we enjoyed trying different types of fruit and vegetables. The children tasted some things they liked and some they weren’t so keen on. As we chewed we used our senses to describe what it felt like as well as the taste.  We tasted lemon,   watermelon, mango, as well as celery, cucumber, carrots, kiwi, apple, grape and avocado.

Cricket

Image
This morning the Bears have been practising some new cricket skills. After they've warmed up by playing banana Tigg and space ships and flying sauces they started to learn new cricket skills. They rolled the ball to their partner.   Bounced the ball to their partner  Practised bowling by aiming the ball at the cricket stumps     Then batting and fielded the ball. Another super session Bears, well done!

RE trip to church

Image
On Wednesday afternoon, Bears and Tigers visited church as part of their RE learning.  Bears are currently working on the 'Incarnation' unit from Understanding Christianity and have recently been learning about Christenings and Baptisms. Tigers are doing 'Salvation' and have been learning about the Easter story. The wonderful Olwen (our church link) led a great session for the children, recapping these focus topics. The children had remembered their learning really well and wowed Olwen with their knowledge and understanding.  The children then had opportunity to explore the church and look at areas, artefacts and symbols that linked with our learning. The children said: "We have Easter eggs because they represent new life" "People laid palm leaves and cloaks on the floor to welcome Jesus to Jerusalem" "Jesus came back to life. He died to give us more life" The children spotted the crosses. One child said: "The cross represents Jesus

A very proud moment (our class assembly)

Image
This afternoon the Bears delivered their very first class assembly to the rest of the school. They decided that they would like to perform a re-telling of ‘The Tiny Seed’. The children were given parts of the story in pairs; they wrote a caption, made props, chose costumes then we put each part together to re-tell the whole story. We even had a narrator that told the whole story beautifully! The seeds blowing in the Autumn winds  A bird pecking the seed A seed falling into the Ocean A weed growing quickly and blocking the light of another plant, killing it   Finally 'The Tiny Seed' turned into a beautiful, tall flower We love this story because 'The Tiny Seed' shows courage and perseverance even though he is faced with challenges along the way.   We finished by singing a song we've learnt called 'I'm a little sunflower' that explains what a sunflower needs in order to grow. Well done Bears, you were fabulous and thoroughly entertaining!
