Jesus as a baby

Image
This morning we read the nativity story. The children identified the characters and matched them with the figures in the nativity scene and asked questions about Jesus. We discussed how the mince pie originally was oval shaped to represent Jesus’ crib and baby Jesus was placed on top. The children worked together to make mince pies, all having different roles in the process. Later, we made our our nativity set out of clay.

Forest schools hedgehogs

This afternoon, after playing a game of '1,2,3 where are you', (helping us to get used to boundaries in the woodlands) we discussed the animals that are starting to hibernate at this time of year. We decided to make a hedgehog, so we collected natural materials and used these and salt dough to make our creatures. We then joined together to share stories about them.

Reflection den

Today we added to our reflection den by created wool-wrapped crosses to make a mobile. The children would like to use the space to think, pray or reflect on their thoughts and feelings. The crosses symbolise Jesus remind us how he taught us to live.

The Beast

Image
We have been thinking about how we  use our thoughts to overcome problems we are faced with, such as the ‘beast’ in the story ‘I am Henry Finch’. This afternoon we worked together, listening to each other’s ideas to create a beast out of junk to remind us to listen to our thoughts when we are faced with challenges.

Phonics

Bears have been learning the ‘x’ sound. They practised saying and writing it, looked at things that started with that sound, sounded out words that included the ‘x’ sound, then used some of those words in a sentence.

Remembrance Day Poppies

Image
This afternoon we learnt a little bit more about why people wear poppies on Remembrance Day. Tigers and Bears shared stories of people that they know/know of who fought in a war and how they did brave things to help us to live in peace. Bears then made their own beautiful poppies.
