Packing to see the wild things

Image
The bears went off on an adventure this morning to see the wild things. They looked at the packing list to see what they need to take with them and counted out the items after sorting them into groups. Once they had counted the items from the larger group they put them in a line and pointed to each object as they counted to check they had the correct number.  They put the items in their suitcase and went off to make a tent to shelter in, where they watched out for the wild things.

First Collective Worship for Bears

Image
This afternoon, Bears enjoyed their first Collective Worship with Tigers class. We talked about fairness and discussed our school values (aspire, forgiveness, imagine, resilience, working with others, motivate, respect). Mr Handley then gave out our Star of the Week certificates and drew the rainbow raffle. Children are awarded raffle tickets throughout the week when they are spotted demonstrating one of our school values. There were plenty of tickets to choose from!  Everyone sat and listened beautifully as well as joining in with enthusiasm. Well done!

Wild things hide and seek

Image
This morning, the children had a great game of hide and seek in groups. A ‘wild thing’ hid and the other children looked for the them before decoding and blending the words “it is in...” then finishing the sentence by describing where they were hiding. It is brilliant to see the children using and applying there new phonic knowledge! A wild thing hiding  Talking about where the wild thing is  The bears also really impressed me when they drew a wild thing and discussed and wrote about where it is hiding using their ‘Fred fingers’ to sound out the words.

Little visitors in our woodland

Image
The infants arrived in the woodland to find a tree spirit on a tree guarding the remains of the Choo Choo people’s village. The tree spirit had been told to look after the village whilst the little people went on holiday but unfortunately the village had been destroyed by something larger. The children decided to rebuild the village for when the Choo Choo people returned and made more tree spirits to guard the new houses. The children did a fantastic job of rebuilding the village, some brilliant teamwork and imagination!

Number fun

We’ve had lots of fun this morning! The bears rode through the riding jungle, like ‘wild things’, avoiding obstacles to collect a number to take back to the island. On their return to the island they counted out the correct number of objects from a large group then checked by counting, pointing to each object in turn.  Riding through the jungle  Counting out objects

What’s been going on in our classroom?

Yesterday the bears arrived in our classroom and found some very mysterious things had happened. Something had left a rather large footprint and had bitten a chunk out of our phonics display! There was also a chunk of fur left on the carpet. The children later found a sack labelled ‘Sam’s sack’ which contained various items that started with the letter ‘s’, including a story called ‘Where the wild things are.’  We read part of the story and the children decided that Sam could be like one of the creatures in the story and they predicted where the character Max was going in his boat and what he was going to do.  This morning the children took it in turns to pretend to be a king, like Max and commanded the wild things to do what they wanted. They then sorted some delicacies that Sam enjoys (he only eats things that start with ‘s’ and ‘a’).  Commanding the wild things  Deciding if the objects start with ‘s’, ‘a’ or neither  The bears have had a fantastic start to school and we are incredi
