Minibeast Safari As part of our companion topic, Creep, Crawl and Wriggle, Bears visited our school woods and went on a minibeast safari. We looked for minibeasts in their natural habitat, their home. We looked under rocks, logs and leaf litter with our magnifying glasses to investigate where the minibeasts were hiding. We recorded our findings. We found a ladybird, lots of worms of different sizes, beetles, spiders, and slugs. Bears were careful to put back their minibeasts after their investigations.

Animal Safari  As part of our new topic, Animal Safari, Bears have been reading Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell. We looked at the features of the animals that were sent from the zoo in the book and decided if any of the animals would be suitable as a pet. Bears decided that a pet elephant would be far too big and take up too much room. Also, we wouldn't want to clean up after it! A giraffe would be too tall and bang it's head on the lights. Most of Bears agreed it would be fun to have a cheeky monkey as pet.  We used our gross and fine motor skills to hold, draw around a stencil and cut out our chosen animal.  We explored and investigated which countries some of the animals came from. We went on our own safari and tried to spot some animals  with our binoculars. We spotted some sheep, lambs, birds and a horse!

Topic - Ready Steady Grow

Image
Ready Steady Grow In our Topic Ready Steady Grow, we have been learning all about farming, how food is produced and different uses for the crops produced. Bears looked at some of the different crops planted from barley, corn, wheat, hay and oats and how some of the crops were used for food for people and some went into different types of animal feed. We looked at our cereal packets like Weetabix, porridge and Cornflakes and saw that the wheat, corn and barley were sent for making into cereal that we eat for breakfast. Bears fed the farm animals with chicken corn, sheep nuts and rolled barley. We then enjoyed singing together Big Red Combine Harvester! We looked at how honey was produced and made our honeycomb. Bears enjoyed making some farm machinery with junk modelling and lego. From our book Handa's Surprise, we learnt that in other countries they grow different fruit and vegetables and that there are things that we buy in our shops that are flown from all around the world.
