Topic - Animal Homes

Image
Animal Homes As part of our topic, Bears have been exploring Animal Homes,  where and how different animals live. We looked at the different animal homes, habitats, and learnt what their homes were called. In our outdoor learning, we built different habitats. We built a Beavers lodge with sticks and water and a bat cave out of mud.  A frogs habitat needs water and land as it is an amphibian.  We also made an insect habitat, a bug hotel, out of sticks, mud and leaves with lots of crevices and places where they can hide from predators.

Maths - Exploring Patterns

Image
Exploring Patterns Bears have been looking at different types of patterns and making our own repeat patterns. We looked at simple patterns using two colours, two shapes or two sizes. We then went outside and looked for patterns around us. We spotted patterns in the fencing, on buildings and grids, even on wellies. We made chalk and wax crayon rubbings so we could see the pattern and then also made more complex patterns. In exploring making patterns with the Numicon, we also made 3D patterns. We also discovered that there are patterns in the rhythm and the words of songs and word patterns in the stories we read. The children loved hunting for patterns, we discovered patterns are everywhere!

Topic _ Animal Safari

Longest, shortest, tallest. In our topic Animal Safari, we have been investigating the different features and characteristics of animals. We made shadow outlines of our animals and compared and observed that a giraffe had really long neck and a long legs, the elephant had really long trunk and very large ears. We also learnt that we are part of a group of animals called mammals and so we also drew around our outlines.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning Bears have been baking in our mud kitchen. We made Dandelion cupcakes and vegetable leaf soup, leaf pancakes. We have also been exploring the textures of different plants and leaves in our outdoor learning. We found slugs and snails amongst the leaves. We made Dandelion cupcakes.   Victor discovered that the leaf was very soft to touch.  We pretended to build a fire using coloured paper for flames!

DEAR Time

Drop Everything and Read. Bears enjoyed outdoor reading on this sunny May day. We shared stories and spotted some of our phonic words in the books. We discovered that Poland was in Europe, looking at our Atlas. We learnt some interesting facts about cats. Why do they wash their faces? To spread their scent around their bodies!

Planting with Jen

Image
Planting Bears class thoroughly enjoyed a planting session with Jennie. We are so grateful for our wonderful parents who support us in so many ways. Jennie has offered her gardening skills to support children across the school in creating their own garden area for them to look after. The children also enjoyed seeing Mrs Sizer and Freddie!

Amazing Animals

Amazing Animals Bears have been exploring all about different animals during our topic time, Animal Safari. We have been talking about and describing our favourite animals, whether they had feathers, fur or skin. We then used our different textures of materials to make our favourite animal or to create our own animal. In our outdoor learning, Bears enjoyed pretending to be animals playing in the woods, we wondered what it would be like eating grubs and insects.
