Harvest boxes

Image
We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the school community this week. The food that was donated has been used in many different ways. Yesterday, the children sorted the produce and made food boxes up for the elderly people in the village.  The infants joined together after playtime and headed off to deliver the boxes to the elderly. When we arrived at each door, we sang a verse from one of the harvest songs we have been learning. The children really enjoyed visiting each person and were delighted with how much their gifts were appreciated. In the afternoon, we made soup using the rest of the produce to sell at our 'Harvest Cafe' on Friday afternoon in aid of the 'Pakistan flood appeal.'

V.I.P.s

Wow! What an afternoon. There has been so much fantastic learning going on. We dived into our new topic- 'V.I.P.s of the past' where the children have learnt about three very important people that have impacted the world today.  Florence Nightingale We learnt that Florence carried a lamp with her to check on the patients in the hospital she was looking after.  We made lanterns to remind us that she was known as 'The lady with the lamp'.           Florence is remembered for the work she did in order to improve hospital conditions and the care patients received. The children practiced being nurses, looking after wounded soldiers that were injured during the Crimean war.                                 The wounded soldiers were clearly being looked after well!     Neil Armstrong  The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the astronaut...

Me, me, me oh my, how I love my apple pie!

What a fantastic start to the year we're having! It's been so wonderful to welcome the Bears to school this week and to get stuck into some fantastic learning already.  We decided to make apple pie with the apples we've been growing After collecting and counting the apples from the trees, the children got to work peeling and chopping the apples. The Bears were fantastic- sensibly and carefully using the tools to prepare the fruit. Once they were ready, the apples were added to the pan along with sugar and water.  Today, groups of children weighed out the ingredients to make pastry. They added the ingredients together then combined them to make the pastry. Once the pastry was formed, they then rolled it out to make the pie top and added decorations using cutters.  This afternoon, we cooked the pies and the children enjoyed sharing them together. We were incredibly proud of how well they worked together to create something so tasty!
