Ready Steady Grow In our Topic Ready Steady Grow, we have been learning all about farming, how food is produced and different uses for the crops produced. Bears looked at some of the different crops planted from barley, corn, wheat, hay and oats and how some of the crops were used for food for people and some went into different types of animal feed. We looked at our cereal packets like Weetabix, porridge and Cornflakes and saw that the wheat, corn and barley were sent for making into cereal that we eat for breakfast. Bears fed the farm animals with chicken corn, sheep nuts and rolled barley. We then enjoyed singing together Big Red Combine Harvester! We looked at how honey was produced and made our honeycomb. Bears enjoyed making some farm machinery with junk modelling and lego. From our book Handa's Surprise, we learnt that in other countries they grow different fruit and vegetables and that there are things that we buy in our shops that are flown from all around the world. Bears have been planting seeds and looking at what plants need to grow, soil, water and sunlight. We have been  finding out and sharing together about life on a farm, about the different type of crops that are grown and the different animals that can be found on a farm. Some of the Bears live on or have family who have farms and they shared all about their farms, what animals they have on the farms.   In our Farm Shop, we have exploring the different products that are sold in a local farm shop from cheese, milk and eggs to different fruit and vegetables. Bears have been creating pictures using the various vegetables as block prints.

RE Bears were invited to a very special celebration , a  role play of a  Christening. We dressed up and learnt all about how Christians celebrate the beginning of their faith journey. Rev Sue told us all about what happens at a Christening service, also known as a baptism. Bears took part in the promises from the God parents and the congregation to support the child in their faith journey. We then learnt how in a baptism  water is taken from the font, is  blessed and poured over the babies head. Bears named the baby "Jesus". We then celebrated by singing Hymns together.
