Let's build a city!

 This afternoon, we learnt about what a city is. We discussed and found out what is special about cities and what we would expect them to be like. The children compared life in the city to life in Taddington- comparing the amount of people, traffic, types of transport and different types of buildings and landmarks that may be in a city. We also found out on google maps where are closest cities to Taddington are as well as recapping where the capital cities of the U.K. are found on the map. 

We then decided to build are own 3D city. The children created roads, buildings and physical features then painted them. Next, we will put our city together and make labels for the key features.

 Our Week In maths, we have been exploring 3D shapes, which shapes roll and which shapes stack.  We discovered that shapes need be curved to roll and have a flat face to stack. The drum was a cylinder and could roll. In literacy we have started reading 'Look Up', a story all about a young girl who dreams of becoming an astronaut!  We read how Rocket was inspired by Mae Jemison, the first African -American woman in space. Bears didn't think it was fair that African-American people were stopped from following their dreams. We spotted our phonics sounds through our telescope. We then shared, what we dreamed of doing in the future, from becoming an artist to being an ice cream seller. We also counted down as we watched the astronauts take off in the space shuttle and wondered what it would be like to be in space.
